Inspection Categories are used to organize your inspection points (and/or inventory) and manage the rules and configuration behind each category: such as the Inspection Frequency, Inspection Types, etc.

Step by Step Instructions


To add an Inspection Category, start by logging into the web app:

  1. Click Inspections.
  2. Click Inspection Points.
  3. Click New Inspection Category.

Now, you can enter the details:

  1. Enter a Category Name. (e.g. Fire Extinguisher)
  2. Enable this category.
  3. Select if the Inspection Point ID must be scanned when doing inspections.
  4. Select is the Location of the Inspection Point must be confirmed when doing inspections.
  5. Click Save.

Now, you can enter the General settings:

  1. Enter an Inspection Date. (e.g. Weekly, Monthly, Yearly)
  2. Enable this date.
  3. Choose Level 1 and Level 2 Location Captions. When you run reports, these are the headers you will see. (e.g. Level 1 = Building, Level 2 = Floor)
  4. Click Types.

Now, you can enter the Types settings:

  1. Click the green plus sign.
  2. Enter the name of each type of equipment. (e.g. For fire extinguishers, you may have ABC, BC, and CO2.)
  3. Expand each Type.
  4. Enter the Inspection Dates again. (e.g. Weekly, Monthly, Yearly)
  5. Optional: Enter the Unit of Frequency. (How often this inspection should reoccur, e.g. Every x Number of Months.)
  6. Optional: Enter the Frequency. (How often this inspection should reoccur, e.g. Every 1 Months.)
  7. Optional: Enter the Window. (How many days before the Inspection Due date the inspection can be performed. e.g. 1 would mean the inspection cannot be performed until 1 day before its due date.)
  8. Enable each inspection.

Now, you can enter the Properties settings:

  1. Click Properties.
  2. Optional: Enter Text Properties. (e.g. Serial Number)
  3. Optional: Enter Date Properties (e.g. Date Purchased)

Now, you can enter the Statuses settings:

  1. Click Statuses.
  2. Click the green plus sign.
  3. Enter the name of each status. (e.g. In Service, Out of Service, Retired)
  4. Optional: Exclude certain types from Schedule and Alerts. (e.g. You may not want retired fire extinguishers to get scheduled for inspections, or to receive alerts about them.)

Now, you can enter the Inspections settings:

  1. Click Inspections.
  2. Click the green plus sign.
  3. Enter the Inspection Name. (e.g. Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspection)
  4. Select a Form. These are the questions/answers inspectors will see when completing this inspection.
  5. Optional: Select an Article. This is an article inspectors can reference while completing this inspection.
  6. Optional: Select a Report. This is the format used when completed inspections are viewed/printed.
  7. Optional: Select a Status on Pass. If an inspection passes, the inspection point will have this status. (e.g. In Service)
  8. Optional: Select a Status on Fail. In an inspection fails, the inspection point will have this status. (e.g. Out of Service)
  9. Optional: Select Capture GPS. When this inspection is completed, the mobile app will capture the GPS location of the inspector.
  10. Enable this inspection.
  11. Checkmark 'Date Set' for the Inspection Dates this inspection would satisfy. (e.g. A Monthly inspection might satisfy both the Monthly and Weekly inspection, if they are due at the same time.)
  12. Click Save.

Now, you can enter the Access settings:

  1. Click Access.
  2. Select which groups can access this category.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Optional: Create Alerts for this inspection.

To edit the name and force scan settings of a category, click the pencil icon.

To remove a category, click the red X. Please note: A category cannot be removed if inspection points exist within it.

To change the settings of a category, click the cog wheel.

Now, you can begin adding Inspection Points.
